Organic Buffalo Meat

The main reason for raising Buffalo, other than the love of the animals and the life style, is for the meat. The Canadian Bison Association recommends buffalo meat as a healthy and natural alternative to beef. As well as being a natural red meat, buffalo meat is low in fat, low in cholesterol, and high in protein. No antibiotics, vaccines, chemicals or growth hormones are used in raising XH buffalo.

When you purchase buffalo meat, nutritionally you are getting more... more protein and more nutrients, for less... less fat, less calories and less cholesterol.

People interested in purchasing larger quantities of meat can do so by purchasing a half, or a whole animal (approximately 200 kg or 400 lbs).

Buffalo Skulls

A buffalo skull is considered by many to be great medicine.

Buffalo skulls are another by-product of buffalo ranching. The skulls were, and still are, used by the Plains Indians in their ceremonies as a symbol of the Great Spirit's wisdom. Buffalo skulls are also painted to represent different spirits by artists and then displayed in homes and galleries.

A buffalo skull is considered by many to be great medicine and symbolizes the message power of the buffalo. Today a buffalo skull is still a powerful reminder of the open prairies and the way of life of a people in harmony with the land.

The skulls are processed naturally at the XH Buffalo Ranch and then offered for sale.
Prices range from $40 - $200 CAD depending on size and quality.

Buffalo Hides

These magnificent winter hides are professionally tanned at the XH Ranch.

These magnificent winter hides are professionally tanned at the ranch's tannery by Rudy Karlen, a Swiss-Canadian Master Craftsman and all-around lead hand at the ranch.

Each animal weighs approximately 400 kg (800 lbs) when slaughtered. The processed hides measure roughly 150 cm by 180 cm (5 ft by 6 ft) but sizes may vary.

All the hides sold at the XH are off their own buffalo and only non-toxic materials are used in the old-fashioned tanning process resulting in an all-natural and environmentally-friendly product that is very clean, free of bugs and easy to care for.

Buffalo hides make cozy bedspreads, rustic rugs, or impressive wall hangings. You can buy a hide and have it made into a coat as Buffalo fur is well known for its warmth and the ability to absorb large amounts of moisture.

The hides are lush, thick and soft to the touch. The leather is thick and almost flawless. The fur over the hump is particularly long and luxuriant and each hide comes complete with the tail.

Caring for a buffalo hide is quite easy: simply brush or vacuum it and it's like new again.
Prices for the finished buffalo hides range from $600 - $800 CAD depending on size and condition.

The XH Ranch store offers lots of products made from the buffalo so you'll have no trouble finding a souvenir or gift to take home.

They have couch size pillows that are made with genuine buffalo hide on one side and material on the other. They sell for between $20.00 and $85.00 each. There are also buffalo dew claws, hoofs, and horns. These can be used as souvenirs, dog treats, or for costume decoration, etc.
